This question of mine was never resolved.

As you read this, you will see the terms layer1 and layer2.

Q1.Is layer1 the physical layer? Does layer2 refer to the data link layer?
Q2.“Checking example.syscfg, you are not using ETHPHY.”Why not add ETHPHY?

    The Enet ICSSG Loopback Example states,
    “This example exercises the PHY loopback functionality of an external PHY (layer1) SoC.”
    The example is described as follows

    I think that a PHY driver is necessary if I do loopback in physical layer.
    I think that ETHPHY of example.syscfg is necessary if I use a PHY driver.
    However, I do not add it.

    Why not add ETHPHY?

Example no named as "Layer 1", but your understanding is correct.

ETHPHY will be used for EMAC usage not for enet-lld.

In case of enet-lld, we will use below ENET-PHY drivers
