MCU-PLUS-SDK-AM243X: How to Make Breakpoint During Runtime in CCS

Hi TI Experts,

Customer is working on AM243x SDK9.2.

They also have the experience using C2000 before, they mentioned that in C2000, they could make the breakpoint in CCS during the runtime (an application is running).

However, they found that in AM243x, they have to stop the running application firstly, then make the breakpoint, and then continue to run it. They think it is not convenient and time consuming for the debugging.

Could you please double check if we could actually make the breakpoint during the runtime in AM243x just like we have in C2000?

Hello Kevin,

We got two cores M4 and R5 core. On which core are you trying to run your application?

Because we have earlier seen few CCS issues while running with R5 but not with M4. Some of them include not being able to see the runtime change in the values after you add watch expression to a certain variable.

But I do not get your use case here, as you want to put a breakpoint while the application is running, so I guess you would pause the application at some point and then put a breakpoint and proceed, is that what your flow would look like?

Customer is using the R5f core.

Yes, normally as we know, we need to pause the application at some point and then put a breakpoint and proceed.

However, customer mentioned that in C2000, they could add the breakpoint without pausing the application, this is what they want to have on AM243x also.

Kevin, can you please go ahead and ask the customer to run a demo program on M4F core, and try putting a breakpoint meanwhile execution.

Let me know if that works. Basically R5 and A53 cores will not allow breakpoints mid execution but M4F might(please ask customer to test out).
