AM2634: 64MB Memory access with Q-SPI for AM2634

Part Number: AM2634

Tool/software:

Hi, can you check and confirm if we can use 64MB Flash memory using external NOR Flash with Q-SPI interface in AM2634 MCU. If so, suggest any suitable parts.

In the evaluation board of AM2634, we are testing using 16MB. but our application requires external flash memory up to 64MB min.

  • Hello TEMC,

For QSPI we have errata item i2364 which limits the memory size in memory mapped mode to 8MB. So if you need 64MB for code execution that will not be possible. You can use AM263P instead which does not have this limitation and the OSPI peripheral on AM2634 can operate in QSPI mode as well.

  • Hi Ralph,

As of now we can't change the MCU because of customer request. Can you confirm, if we use GPMC for accessing the external memory like 64MB flash and 16MB SDRAM?

  • Hello TEMC,

GPMC can be used to access:

    • Asynchronous, synchronous, and page mode (available only in non-multiplexed mode) burst NOR flash devices
    • NAND flash

Note that GPMC is not a peripheral that is designed for the device to boot from, so you will need a method for initial booting using UART or QSPI.

  • we require 16MB PSRAM for our design, can you suggest any suitable parts? that is compatible with AM2634

  • Hello TEMC,

I will check with our team, I believe there may be at least one I can recommend.

  • Hello TEMC,

One device we are considering using for a future hardware design as it meets specifications is APS12808L-3 OBMX-BAA.

  • Hi Ralph,

Thank you for the suggestion, can you also share reference schematic for interfacing PSRAM. So we can consider the same in our designs also

  • Hi TEMC,

Let me see if we have any draft schematics that could be shared. I'll get back to you within the next two days.

    Ralph Jacobi

  • Hi Ralph,

The PSRAM which you have been suggested was supported with DDR but AM2634 does not has any DDR. Then could you please verify once and reply.

  • Hello TEMC,

Okay so the only PSRAM we are looking into right now is this OSPI based on for use with OSPI enabled devices. That was a miss on my end that we only have that as a recommendation. We don't have any recommendations for one that interfaces with GPMC on AM263 at this time.
