TM4C1294NCPDT: CCS 8.3.1: No repository found for ARM GCC Compiler Tools update to 9.2.1.2019-q4-major

Hello everyone,

I'm experiencing issues updating the GCC compiler tools for ARM microcontrollers from version 18.1.4.LTS to 18.1.8.LTS in Code Composer Studio (CCS) 8.3.1.00004.

The problem:

- CCS notifies about an available update on startup

- The update consistently fails when trying to collect 'com.ti.gcc.arm.win32_root_9.2.1.2019-q4-major'

- I specifically need compiler version 18.1.8.LTS [ARM] to maintain compatibility with existing project code

Questions:

1. Has anyone encountered and solved this issue?

2. Is there a way to manually download and install this specific compiler version?

Any help or guidance would be greatly appreciated.

Hi,

I suppose you are using the TI Arm compiler, not the GCC compiler, correct? Both of 18.1.4.LTS and 18.1.8.LTS are TI Arm compiler. These are not GCC compiler.

Your are using CCS8.3.1. This is a rather very old CCS version. Is there a strong reason to use this version. For Eclipse-based CCS, I will suggest you migrate to the latest which is CCS12.8.1 and you can download from https://www.ti.com/tool/download/CCSTUDIO/12.8.1. I understand some customers have requirements to stay with only certain versions of toolsets. In that case, you can continue to use CCS8.

You can download TI Arm compiler 18.1.8.LTS from https://www.ti.com/tool/download/ARM-CGT manually. See below options.

Hi,

You are right, I am using TI Arm compiler (sorry for the mistake).

I have to use CCS8.3.1 due to project requirements, maybe in the future when there is a major update of the project we can move to a newer one.

I have already downloaded and installed the TI Arm compiler 18.1.8.LTS, thanks a lot for the link.

It seems that after installation CCS is using the new version of the compiler, but it is still asking for the update on startup. Any idea why?

Can you show a log where CCS is asking you to update? I can then forward to our CCS expert for comments.

Ok. This is normally shown on the lower right corner when you bring up CCS if there is any software updates available. Honestly, I normally just click the 'x' to ignore them.

You can unclick any software that you don't want to upgrade. For example, unclick the GCC compiler since you are not using it.

If you need to use GCC compiler in the future, you can manually install it, see below.
