LAUNCHXL-RM42: How can CCS V20 be connected to the Hercules RM42X launchpad?

Here i list down all the examples related to Hercules devices.

Refer above LED blink tutorial and follow the same procedure to blink a LED on your board.

If you face any difficulty, we can setup one live debugging session also, there i can explain everything in detailed.

Currently latest CCS version doesn't support Hercules devices that includes RM42x as well. We are working on it and we will rectify this in our next release. Until then i will suggest you use CCS12.8.1 only, the download procedure for it is given below:

     Thank you for your support. I followed your suggestion and downloaded CCS 12.8.1, but I still can't find the LAUNCHXL-RM42 option in CCS. Does this version also not support debugging and learning with the LAUNCHPAD EVALUATION KIT?

Hi Song Kuang,

It won't show Launchpad directly in CCS and you should select the controller that is present on the Launchpad.

You can see, i am also using CCS12.8.1 and i could find the controller RM42:

Thank you for your prompt reply. My question is: How does CCS connect to my LAUNCHPAD EVALUATION KIT for debugging and programming? Or is CCS unable to connect directly to the LAUNCHPAD EVALUATION KIT, requiring an XDS200 instead? Additionally, where can I download example programs compatible with the LAUNCHPAD EVALUATION KIT? Can I open, compile, and directly download them to the board via CCS for testing? I have an RM42 example project, but it fails to compile in CCS and cannot generate the .OUT file. Any ideas why?

Hi Song Kuang,

Once you connect USB cable between your Launchpad and your PC then in device manager you can find the debug probe.

For all the Hercules Launchpads the debug probe should be XDS110 like as i highlighted above.

And you can select same debug probe for your project in General properties like as shown below:

Once you did this then you can directly debug the project:

And i don't see any errors as well, all i could see is only 2 warnings. Warnings are fine there should not be any issue.

After completion of build expand your debug path to see the .out file:

You should choose this one in your properties:

CCS fails to complete the build process; it gets stuck at 44% and doesn't progress further.

but ,This sample program can compile successfully.

During compilation, the progress bar will eventually display the following content and then get stuck at 44% without any change.

Can you please download below project and extract it and try with it:

The compilation cannot be completed and is consistently stuck at 39%, and CCS cannot be closed. Is this version of CCS incompatible with the project? Do I need a lower version of CCS?

Same as the previous issue, it appears to show that a certain .LIB file cannot be generated. What causes this problem?

     I've tried various methods, including downloading different versions of CCS to compile this project, but whenever it involves an RM42 project, the above error occurs. However, other projects like RM46 do not show this issue. I'm puzzled why this library file cannot be generated. I also tried downloading ti_cgt_tms470_20.2.7.LTS_windows-x64_installer.exe and installing it, but among the generated LIB files, many LIB files appear—yet the rtsv7R7_A_le_eabi.lib file is missing. I'm really frustrated—why is this happening? Please help me. Thank you!

Apologies for the delay.

Actually, this is compiler library:

So, what you need to do is that, download LTS compiler from below link:

ARM-CGT IDE, configuration, compiler or debugger | TI.com

Once you download it, install it to the ccs\tools\compiler path like as below:

Now open properties of your project in CCS and click on below option at compiler:

Now add a path of your compiler:

Once you add the path and do refresh then you could see the installed compiler in discovered tools:

Select the compiler and now click on "Apply and Close". Now build your project, you should not get that error.

Why is the rtsv7R4_A_le_eabi.lib file missing in my LIB folder, while your folder has rtsv7R4_A_le_eabi.lib?

Can you send me this file individually(rtsv7R4_A_le_eabi.lib)?

I've followed all your steps, but I think you might not fully understand my point. What I mean is: After downloading and installing the LTS package on my computer, it never generates the rtsv7R4_A_le_eabi.lib file, even though it successfully creates other LIB files. I find this very strange.

Thank you. At the same time, I’m curious to know why I am missing two LIB files. I tested this on different computers, and each time, two files were missing. I’m worried I might encounter a similar issue again. Please tell me why.

Even i don't have any knowledge on why it missed. I will check with our compiler team and get back to you on this.
