LP-MSPM0L1306: LP-MSPM0L1306 power consumption very unsatisfactory in Stnadby1 mode

Part Number: LP-MSPM0L1306
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: ENERGYTRACE, MSPM0L1306

Hi Jerry and TI expert:

We are now developementing a battetry powered system and need very tiny power consumption when in Stnadby1 mode ( to extend the battery usege time), and we apply LP-MSPM0L1306 for the developement EVB.

But it's very starngeness that the power consumption is around 155uA and much bigger than 1.1uA ( according to "SLAAE72 -- MSPM0 L-Series MCUs Power Optimization Guide", the  power consumption in Stnadby1 mode should be 1.1uA.

We observed the same symptom either we use Energytrace ( SW measurement)  or miltimeter  ( HW measurement)   .

We has feedback this issue to FAE and get some instructions but still can not solve this issue, please advice if anything wrong?

the steps asbelow and detail please ref to attached pictures:

1. Hardware is MSPM0L1306 LaunchPad

2. Software sets device power mode to Standby1

3. Software configures unused Pins to input and pull low

4. Remove J15 jumper on LaunchPad to cut thermistor power

  • Hello Steven,

Please remove J9, J10 and J2 too. You have set all unused pin to pull-down internal, including PA0, PA1. The J2 will connect 3V3-> LED -> PA0 -> GND, and the J9 / J10 will connect 3V3 -> R -> PA1 / PA0. This will cause a completed 3V3-> GND circuit which will cuase higher current. Please remove them and try again. On my side, I have done some tests, the current is about 1.1uA

  • Janz:

thank for the quickly response and it seems improved in standby mode ( 1uA), we will implement some sensors like light sensor ( i2c) to LP-MSPM0L1306 and see the power consumption in other mode ( like stop or sleep).

  • Sounds good the power consumption in STANDBY has been improved. I will close this E2E post. And if you have new questions about power consumption mode, welcome to post E2E to use.

    Best Regards,
