AM2612: AM2612 to capture hall sensor

Part Number: AM2612

Hi experts,

Can AM2612 support capture of uvw signal from hall sensor? If yes, which periperials would be used?

Best Regards

Kita

  • Hi Kita,

Yes. You can use the eCAP module to do this.

    Thanks,

    Jiaxin

  • Yes, the AM2612 supports capturing UVW Hall sensor signals. There are two primary approaches depending on your application needs:

    Recommended: eCAP (Enhanced Capture) Modules

The AM2612 includes 8 eCAP modules specifically suited for timestamping Hall sensor edges 1. The signal path is:

Hall U/V/W → GPIO pins → Input XBAR → eCAP modules

    Each eCAP provides:

    • 4-event timestamp registers
    • Rising/falling edge polarity selection
    • Single-shot and continuous capture modes
    • Counter reset on each edge for period measurement

This approach gives you precise timing between Hall transitions, enabling speed/frequency calculation 2.

Alternative: GPIO + Software (HALL API Module)

For simple commutation state reading (no timing measurement needed), the Motor Control SDK provides a HALL API module that configures three GPIO pins for Hall U, V, and W inputs and reads their combined state directly 3.

    Alternative: eQEP Modules

The AM2612 has 2 eQEP modules that can also interface with Hall sensors for position/speed measurement, though these are primarily designed for quadrature encoders 1.
