TMS570LS1224: SPI Driver Not working

Part Number: TMS570LS1224
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: HALCOGEN,

Hello,

We are trying to develop a sample SPI program for initial driver level testing. We have used halcogen HELP window to understand the configuration of SPI but found few of the images are not able to see on our screen as well as when we select MIBSPI1 Data formats , the page in not clear and overlap each other.
Still we tried to configure and generate the code, but the code was not showing appropriate result at the end after building in Code composer studio and we are using V12.8.1.

Can you please guide us to complete a sample testing or an example testing on the same.

  • Hi Manas,

Here's guidance to get your SPI driver working on the TMS570LS1224:

Recommended Steps for SPI Configuration in HALCoGen:

    1. Enable the MIBSPI1 driver in the Driver Enable tab
    2. Set pin multiplexing correctly in the PINMUX tab (enable PICO0, POCI0, CLK directions)
    3. Configure SPI baud rate in the "SPIn Data Formats" tab — note that the baud rate is set here, not by modifying VCLK1 in the clock tree 1
    4. Use the built-in example: In HALCoGen, go to Help → Help Topics → Examples and look for example_spi_Master_Slave.c, which provides a working SPI communication template 1

    Common pitfalls to avoid:

    • If using interrupts, call mibspiEnableGroupNotification(mibspiREG1, 0, 0) — the level parameter must be 0, not 1 2
    • When creating the CCS project, ensure you delete any template main.c file so it doesn't conflict with HALCoGen's generated sys_main.c 3
    • Place your application code between USER CODE BEGIN and USER CODE END comments so it's preserved when regenerating 4

Regarding the HALCoGen UI display issues (overlapping pages, missing images): This may be related to your display DPI scaling settings. Could you share which version of HALCoGen you are using?

To provide more targeted help, could you clarify:

    • What does "not showing appropriate result" mean — are you seeing build/linker errors, or does the code compile but SPI communication fails?
    • Are you configuring the TMS570 as SPI controller (master) or peripheral (slave)?
    • What SPI device are you trying to communicate with?
