Unable to get Stellaris Launchpad recognized by PC

I felt great excitment when I plugged in my new Stellaris Launchpad to my PC: pushing buttons and seeing the lights change, and even more when I read that I could control it through a PC terminal. However, I have not been able to get the Stellaris Launchpad recognized by the computer, when I plug it in, nothing happens on the device manager, no driver wizard, no new device found, nothing. I have tried with both Windows 8 Release Preview (yes, I disabled driver signature enforcement) and Windows 7 Professional 64 bits. The only thin I could get was device manager listing a "Stellaris Firmware Upgrade" device when removing the VDD jumper and plugin in the board:

ahora tengo el problema que necesito iniciar el proyecto de cuando oprima un boton o switch 1 me prenda un led todo esto debe ser en composer studio v6

jose, esto es un forum inglês. No tendras casi auyda se hablas español.

Depues del español intenta tambien postar la traducion para ingles con el google tradutor.

Qual es exatamente el problema, no entiendo bien.

I have the same problem with the installation. The device manager can`t find the board when its connected to the pc (i have tried on 2 different pcs). The board Is connected via DEBUG port and not DEVICE port.

I will appreciate Your help.

Hi Amit, nothing happens in device manager when i connect the board. No new or unrecognized hardware is detected.

Hello Dima,

Is this a new LaunchPad that you got or was it in use earlier? Does the Power Supply LED lights when it is connected to the USB port?

What if you connect the USB Port to the second USB connector on the side and move the switch to device mode. Does the Device manager detect anything like a DFU?

1. It is a new board ive never used before.

I have the same problem with my launchpad ek-tm4c123gxl. In device manager it shows up Stellaris Device Firmware Upgrade and I can not use my board. Please help me

Hi Kursat,

What was the last action you did before this happened?

Try Erase Entire Flash using LM Flash Programmer then load a known working example program.

Hi Markel,

Thanks for the quick response, This happened when i am downloading my project to board through Keil uVision.
I also installed LM Flash programmer and tried to erase entire flash it gave " **ERROR**; Unable to find a target !" It seems like I can't do anything with LM Flash Programmer on the other options too because it could not find my device.

Hello Kursat,

The issue with Dmitri's LaunchPad has been resolved. Looking at the post you have, can you first send a snapshot of the Device Manager showing how the LaunchPad appears?

Hi Amit,
Iam also facing the same problem .i.e. whenever the TM4C123 board is plugged to the USB(into the debug port with the switch towards "Debug"), stellaris firmware update is getting activated instead of the USB COM port and I am not able to program my lauchpad. It was working 2 days back and suddenly my windows popped up a message saying "One of the USB devices has malfunctioned". Please help me resolve this issue. Following is the screenshot of my device manager. Please help me resolve this issue.

Hello Mahesh,

You can try using the ICDI Firmware Upgrade on the LMFlash Programmer, but before doing the same I would be very interested in how it got erased. May be some step you can recollect.

I was using the ADC of the microcontroller to read the current from a current-sensor. But I have a protection circuit that ensured that the ADC input never went above 3.3V. Once, the ground connection to the launchpad got disconnected. Think that may be a reason. Also I have another launchpad to perform exactly the same function which is working fine. Please let me know if it is a hardware malfunction and whether I will be able to use the board again

Hello Mahesh,

Not sure, if I very well understood it. Let me explain what I did understand: The HW protection circuit breaks the GND loop!!!

Did you try the step I did mention?

Hello Mahesh,

But please be careful with such process as the FirmWare upgrade may not work seamlessly if the device suffers a fault due to improper eletrical isolation.

I have the same problem with my Stellaris LaunchPad board. When it is connected to the USB port, the multi-color LED test program works fine. Then, running the DPInst64.exe device driver installation Wizard gives a "Ready to use" status. But Windows 7 Device Manager under Other Devices shows three In-Circuit Debug Interface items with "The drivers for this device are not installed" status. Then, when Energia is run, attempts to load a new program into the board result in a "Unable to find any ICDI devices".

The interface works well now.

What did I do wrong?

After installing Energia, I clicked on the Help menu and selected Getting Started. This opens the following page:

Installing the LaunchPad drivers

To use Energia you will need to have the LaunchPad drivers installed.

If TI's Code Composer Studio 5.x with MSP430 suport is already installed on your computer then the drivers are already installed. Skip to the next step.

Download the LaunchPad drivers for Windows: LaunchPad CDC drivers zip file for Windows 32 and 64 bit
Unzip and double click DPinst.exe for Windows 32bit or DPinst64.exe for Windows 64 bit.
Follow the installer instructions.

Running DPinst64.exe did not work. Maybe this file is to be used with a MSP430 LaunchPad.

You pointed me to the following web page to get the correct zip file for the Stellaris LaunchPad: www.ti.com/.../stellaris_icdi_drivers

Yes, that driver is for MSP430 devices and not for TM4C

I have just bought the TM4C1294 Connected Launchpad and I'm having the same problem as most of the users in this thread.

I am using windows 10 but i have the same issue that you described in case 1 in your post.

Do you have a solution for this issue?

Hi Amit,

I am facing an equal problem as the other users. My TM4C123GH6PM LaunchPad was recognized before. Yesterday I tried flashing the LaunchPad with another program, but somehow CCS got stuck while flashing. After closing the CCS and relaunching it again, my PC is not recognizing the LaunchPad anymore.

I am using CCS v6 on a Win7 64-bit machine. The device manager is not showing anything when the LaunchPad is connected. I tried reinstalling CCS and the Tiva C Series drivers, but that didn't help. Also when removing the Vdd jumper nothing changes. LMflashprogrammer tells me "ERROR: Unable to find a target". CCS is giving the "Frequency out of range" error.

Another LaunchPad (MSP432-EXP432P401R) is recognized by the PC and works as it should.

i was also facing exactly same problem.

I got it resolved by changing USB cable, after third time replacement of cable with different make i got everything perfect.

Dear Jose:

Regarding the Tiva C Launchpad not being recognized, I had the same issue. I have the TM4C123GH6PM, and I could not get it to be recognize by any of my computers: no device manager, no driver wizard, no new device found -- nothing. I swapped out the USB cable that it came with, and BAM! It was fully recognized! I'm not sure why the cable that it came with did not worked, but this is what fixed my issues. Also, remember to set the switch to 'Debug' on your board. Lastly, if your going to use the Energia, make sure to download the Tiva C support package using the Board Manager under Tools.
