Quick question about using CAN Bus on Tiva C Series TM4C1294 LaunchPad

Hi all,

Quick question, I am trying to run some test on the Tiva C Series TM4C1294 Board with its CAN Bus. Do I need to use a external CAN Transceiver in order to connect to another CAN device? If so, any suggestion which device is more preferable? If not, please tell me where is the on-board transceiver and the corresponding pin.

Hello Luxi,

Yes, you would need a CAN Trasnceiver. About a month back we ran a lot of CAN posts, one of which had the CAN Transceiver mentioned. I would suggest SN65HVD231Q

Should you be prototyping - CAN xcvrs are available both in 8 pin, soic and 8 pin DIP. Remember to include termination resistors @ each end. (of course you'll need 2 CAN xcvrs - one for each "end.")
