speed ADC?

Good day community Hercules, I have some questions about the ADC, according to technical data sheet, speed Sample / Hold / Convert is 600(ns)

but when I go to see the value in HalCoGen not meeting these 600 ns but if I am in with a value of 1.5(us).

I wonder why this happens and really what is the speed of ADC conversion?

  • Martin,
    Check the ADC "General" tab to make sure you have the Cycle time set to 30ns.
    It takes 1 clock to convert each bit of ADC data plus however many clocks you set for sample time.
    So if you have the clock at 100ns - then it's going to take something like 1.x us.
  • Hello Martin:

    How are you configuring the Cycle Time in ADC1 General tab? If you configure VCLK1 to 30MHz in GCM tab and set the Cycle Time to the minimum value in ADC1 General tab, you'll get a total time very close to 600us.

  • I've done a few tests the ADC Hercules RM57, with improvements in time for sampling, 0.56 (us).
    the results are quite impressive, it seems that Hercules has a better resolution than my oscilloscope.

    triangular signal is much better than my oscilloscope

    sinusoidal signal: the Hercules overcome my oscilloscope showing peaks that in the oscilloscope were somewhat hard to notice.

    something similar happened here!

    very impressive the speed of ADC Hercules RM57.

    BTW - how many bits is the digitizer in your scope? I think most low end scopes are 8 bits so you might be seeing the difference between 8 and 12 bit ADC ...
  • yes, according to datasheet has a resolution of 8 bits, and is very impressive the difference between 8 and 12 bits.
