RM41L232: Several questions about Hercules RM

Part Number: RM41L232
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: UNIFLASH

I need to find a proper processor for our project of automatic driving.
I think the Hercules RM in TI products may be the right choice. But I have some problems need your support.
1) There are less documents about the OS system about Hercules product. We use UCOSii for developing, is it well supported in Hercules?
2) We want our products will be upgraded after delivered. The safe and secure upgradtion is very import. I only find SPI,UART(spna196,spna190) bootloader for Hercules.
But if the bootloader is disrupted, is there other way to upgrade software of Hercules?
3) Do hercules support SDRAM with ECC?

  • Hello Nancy,

    1. Below is the list of RTOS available for the Hercules MCU from various providers:

    2. We provide SPI, UART and DCAN bootloader. If the bootloader is corrupted, you have to use flash programming tools to re-program the bootloader (uniflash, CCS, or others).

    3. Some part numbers (RM46, RM48, RM57) support 16-bit EMIF (sync and async), but we don't have hardware ECC for external memory (SDRAM or SRAM).

  • Nancy,

In addition to QJs reccomendations, I would also encourage you to consider the TMS570 devices since they are produced specifically for automotive use cases and are certified to the automotive functional safety standard ISO26262 ASILD as well as the general functional safety standard IEC61508 to SIL3. Certification to the autmototive standard would would be a requirement for your application if you are planning to release to the market. The RM devices are only certified to the generic IEC61508 standard and would be more challenging to use in an auto application.
