TM4C1294KCPDT: Enable XDS200 User CDC serial port output

Part Number: TM4C1294KCPDT

I am really puzzled. XDS200 installs a CDC driver

"XDS2xx User CDC Serial Port"

But there is NO DOCUMENTATION I could find regarding the pinout on the 19-in connector. Spectrum Digital "Quick Start Guide" is no help, nor is TI Wiki and I didn't find any additional information.
Is the UART just a generic feature of the IP inside of the emulator and not pinned-out?

  • Hi,

You are correct. As far as I recall, the XDS200 does not have any documentation about the UART feature, although it should work just like a regular CDC device. Unfortunately none of the models available have this peripheral pinned out of the Debug Probe.

You can try to ask Spectrum Digital, or Blackhawk for this information, as these are the two suppliers of this Debug Probe.

    Regards,
    Rafael
  • Hi Rafael,
Thanks for the answer. I thought that XDS200 was a TI design and third party (like Spectrum Digital or Blackhawk) are building versions based on that (what I think is the case for XDS100?)
Anyway - if there is no standardized pinout on the (TI own) 19-pin debug connector for a secondary use as RxD and TxD then there probably is no way to expect compatibility from third party vendors.
I was hoping that I could incorporate debug console on the same connector. That would have been nice.
    thanks - Martin
  • O.K. - Let's consider this closed ... as much as I keep hoping that one day I will find a good documentation.

For now I *assume* that the User Serial port is available for people who integrate the XDSnnn design on their board directly - what is (probably) the case with XDS100 on TI eval boards.

XDS110 www.ti.com/.../sprui94.pdf has an "auxiliary header"  connector - but that (sadly) means adding one more connector to the target and connecting two cables. Still would love to see the RxD and TxD as standardized option on some of the pins of the TI 19-pin connector.
