CCS/RM48L952: Flash ECC Error when building with CCSv8

Hello,

As of last week I am using a new laptop for development and during setup I downloaded ccsv8, prior to this I was using ccsv7.

Today I rebuilt my application for the Rm48 and flashed to the microcontroller. When I write to a RAM location using the debugger or DSS I am getting Flash ECC errors that are not generated when I build the exact same source code in ccsv7. I have flashed ccsv7 builds using this new laptop and everything works fine, but if I flash the ccsv8 builds I always get the Flash ECC errors being triggered.

I am going to dig deeper in to the software releases and verify compiler versions etc, but can anyone in Ti with more knowledge of the Flash ECC diagnostic and CCS versions give me some hints as to where to look to isolate the problem? I am concerned that there is something inherently wrong in our software that is only coming the fore now that I have built with ccsv8.

Hello,

This morning I installed the compiler (TI v16.9.10LTS) that was closer to the rev (TI v16.9.0.LTS) that I used in the ccsv7 builds. When I rebuild with this compiler and run the application, write to a RAM variable, the Flash ECC ESM channel 6 error does not trigger. This behaviour is therefore as I expect, same as in ccsv7.

So this leads me to ask what has changed between compiler versions 16.9.x and 18.1.4 that could cause me to get Flash ECC errors when writing to RAM?

For now I will remain on 16.9.x compiler versions but knowing the root cause of problems with the latest compiler would be very useful.

Hi Jamie,

Does your code access the flash location which is not programmed correctly (ECC value is not correct)? Do you know which statement of your code causes the ECC error?

Yes I think we have to consider this closed, but in future when I have time I will have to do more analysis of the problem to understand why this problem only manifests itself with the most recent compiler.
