TM4C123GH6PM: Tiva C Launchpad : Built-in bootloader present?

Hi,

I have been using the Tiva C launchpad for a while now, but I don't know if the device as a pre-programmed bootloader or not?

I have never programmed the board using Energia of TivaWare, I have written my own codes. If so, does the chip still contain the bootloader provided by TI or not?

If yes, then please let me know if I can get it's source code or not, I'm working on some in-field firmware update application. I won't be using Energia/TivaWare for it.

Hello Pranjal,

All devices have a ROM Boot Loader which can be invoked when the Flash memory of the device is erased.

The details for that boot loader are covered in our Boot Loader User's Guide: https://www.ti.com/lit/pdf/spmu301

And our ROM User's Guide: https://www.ti.com/lit/pdf/spmu367

We don't provide the exact source code for any of our ROM functionality but the boot loader operation in terms of invoking the different programs etc. is the same as the flash boot loader offered in TivaWare.

Thanks for the prompt response, this was exactly what I was looking for.

Regarding the TivaWare part, I have written the relevant drivers as required, however I wish to use your bootloader for firmware updates. Is it possible that I just use the TivaWare libraries/APIs, that are just relevant for the bootloader? Or will I also have to use other Peripheral drivers (NOT relevant for bootloader) as provided by TI ?

Hello Pranjal,

If you already have your application built and just need the boot loader functionality you can just use the boot loader to load your application. The boot loader won't use any driverlib APIs anyways, it is setup to directly read/writer to TM4C registers.

Was just saying from a support standpoint, we would not be able to help much with debug of the application if it isn't using TivaWare APIs so you are aware.
