TMS320F280041C: Types of Watchdogs

Hello,

On page 26 of SPRUID8D (Section 5.1.2) it talks of different types of watchdogs (program sequence, windowed, or question and answer). Is there any documentation on the TI site or elsewhere for that matter that discusses these various types and gives examples of their implementation. I understand the windowed watchdog but am not fully aware of the details on a program sequence or question & answer version. Looking for a discussion of the advantages/disadvantages along with examples of best practices for each.

Hi Bruce,

The program sequence (i.e. CPU'a ability to fetch and execute instructions correctly) monitoring can be implemented as 'Question and Answer mode' interface on SPI bus interfaced with the external Power Management IC as described in the datasheet of the below companion device.

This method of the watchdog is considered to give more coverage in the CPU's integrity.

There could be alternate ways to confirm CPU is functioning by interfacing with other components that has ability to check, PMIC is one such way.
