UCC5880QEVM-057: Support in connecting the EVM with my PC

Hi Sainath,

Thanks for reaching out. This will happen if the device is not receiving enough power. The current rating may need to be increased to fully provide the required power. You can also check this by making sure there are no faults on powerup (nFLT LEDs). Another thing is to double check if the USB cable to the MCU is working correctly.

Can you also try changing the serial port? It is under the options tab.

I already tried changing the port, it did not help. Regarding the power, when I connect external power supply to the board, the voltage drops. for 24V input, I see 18 ish V and 5 V input, I see 2.8V

No, the current limit is above 2A. Is the consumption higher than that? The connector itself are rated for max. of 0.5A. Isn't it?

In that case it should be fine. Can you explain what current VCC1 and VCC2 is drawing? Can you also share what power supply you are using?

around 10 mA. I am usinf keithely 2230-60-3

Regarding the UCB cable! I can detect and flash the MCU in the Uni flash tool. Safe to assume USB is working fine

I just put the EVM on the bench and I am measuring 12mA for VCC1 and 44mA for VCC2 when I apply 5V and 24V respectively. I think there may be some short/ wrong connection or some other issue which is making your power supply not output the correct voltage. Are you just simply connecting the supply and nothing else between the supply and board?

Can you share a picture of the connection?

Since I am measuring 12mA at the 5V input, you may have the current limit for that channel set at 10mA. Can you tell me what you have set as the current limit for both channels?

We are unable to resolve threads from our side, so it must have been clicked it by mistake. (Please see the picture below) Please know we are doing our due diligence to get this resolved as soon as possible.

As far the as the gate driver, there is nothing on the board that can cause the voltage to drop down. The only way this can happen is if there is a max current draw. However, this doesn't seem to be the case. Can you disconnect the power supply from the board and use two multimeters to measure the supply and see if this issue still occurs? This power supply should also have some sense lines. Are those connected correctly?

I put this board on the bench and am seeing 24V, 40mA and 5V, 13mA and the device is working properly. Can you please check this with another power supply?

I see. Looks like I clicked it by mistake! So, I removed the connection from the board and observed no drop. I also changed the power supply as you recommended, now I don't see a voltage drop but the original issue is still there. I also changed the port from the options menu and tried, it did not work.

Also, you can't see that in the picture but D1 is continously blinking

Good to know that the power supply was the issue.

The MCU is supposed to be blinking so that is a good indication. For the GUI, you will need to load the firmware using Uniflash and if that is done successfully, you can then open up the GUI and connect it to the MCU. Sometimes if the MCU is not connected to the EVM correctly, it can cause the transmission to break and you will have to reconnect the card. If you reconnect the control card, try to load the image again. If this is not working, try to change the ports now and it should work.
