TMS320F28027F: linear permanent magnet motor control

Part Number: TMS320F28027F

I have a 3ph tubular linear permanent magnet motor in hand, I am wondering if I could control it using TI's motor control ready to use methods like Delfino, InstaSPIN-FOC and ... that are developed for rotary PM motors?

  • C2000 should support any motor control including 3-phase linear permanent magnet motor as a controller. But we didn't test the FOC algorithm on this motor, but looks the FOC for 3-phase PMSM can be used for 3-phase linear permanent magnet motor as well.

  • Thank you for your input. While I understand that it theoretically should be possible, I was hoping to find a readily available algorithm for linear motor control. It appears there isn't one readily accessible. Given the increasing popularity of linear motors in various applications, it wouldn't be unreasonable to expect TI, as a pioneering company, to develop such algorithms in the future.

  • Yes. The Algorithm for PMS can be used for linear PM motor. You can find a lot of papers on IEEE or other engineering websites.
