Instaspin FOC on Piccolo 2803x

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: MOTORWARE

I'm selecting an MCU for a new motor controller design.  The design is very space constrained, so I'm looking for the minimal MCU that will support the project.  We're using FOC control so need the , but have a QEP encoder input for position feedback, so can operate without the FAST libraries.

Will the 2803x processors support the Instapin-FOC libraries without FAST?

  • For the most part yes, you can use all of the modules that we have in MotorWare and drivers, as long as you don't call any of the functions implemented for FAST. So basically anything that starts with CTRL_ or EST_ can be used for the 3x.

  • Thanks for the reply. I noticed that the 3x series wasn't listed on the www.ti.com/.../MotorWare page. Are the libraries specific to the devices listed, or are they all sw compatible with the 3x MCUs?
  • There are two pieces to this. One is the public modules, so all clarke, park, pid, svgen, etc. That part is compatible with all 28x devices. The second part is an interface to some observer libraries that we put in ROM of a few part numbers (currently on 2xF, 5xF/M and 6xF/M). You are correct, the 3x devices is not part of the devices with libraries in ROM, but you can still use the public modules.
