TMS320F280049: Possible to use FSI in daisy chain for industrial communication

Part Number: TMS320F280049

Dear champs,

My customer wants to use a method to communicate from one to many in short time in industrial communication somewhat like EtherCAT but much simpler and slower.

Is it possible to use FSI in a daisy-chain-like connection?

That is, the TX of F280049_A is connected to RX of F280049_B, the TX of F280049_B is connected to the RX of F280049_C, and the TX of F280049_C is connected to the RX of F280049_A.

Concept like below. But the ethernet is replaced with FSI here.

  • Wayne,

Yes, the customer can implement this type of configuration. There is nothing specifically added to the HW that will facilitate automatic forwarding or ignoring of messages. All of this will need to be implemented in SW.

The FSI has a few things like the independent TX and RX sub-modules, User Data fields, and Frame tags that can be utilized to help each node in the chain determine if a message is something that needs to be acted on or forwarded. Every message will need to be handled by the RX module to determine it's validity, and then forwarded to the TX module if required.

    Does this make sense?
