CCS/TMS320F28377D: CCSv6 Load Fail for F28377D

Part Number: TMS320F28377D
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: CONTROLSUITE

Tool/software: Code Composer Studio

Hi, Champs,

One of my customer is using F28377D and his CCSv6 failed to load program to F28377D.

Firstly, we know their company has strict firewall and anti-virus software running in all their laptops, so we ensured that all those software are turned off and the CCSv6 is installed with administrator authorization. The problem is this only failed in one laptop and all others can work well.

For that laptop, I captured all basic configurations and installation details showed in attachment #1.

Basically it's CCS v6.0.1.00039, C2000 emulation flash version v1.0.0.2, debug server flash version v6.0.0.698 and C2000 device support v4.2.3.0.

The program we loaded is the example code under folder C:\ti\controlSUITE\device_support\F2837xD\v150\F2837xD_examples_Cpu1\cpu_timers.

Before the load, we manually erased all the flash sectors and got succeed, and we confirmed that all flash sectors are indeed with contents of all 0xFFFF by performing a flash dumping.

When loading program, the on-chip flash utility did a further erase and then failed to load with below information:

C28xx_CPU1: Data has been buffered at the end of the current data block for 64-bit aligned writes.

C28xx_CPU1: Error during Flash programming (Flash algorithm returned error code). Operation cancelled.

C28xx_CPU1: Error Writing Flash @ Address 0x00082000 of Length 0x00000016 (page 0)

C28xx_CPU1: Writing buffered data @ Address 0x00082014 of Length 0x00000004

C28xx_CPU1: Error during Flash programming (Flash algorithm returned error code). Operation cancelled.

C28xx_CPU1: Please make sure the memory location you are programming have not already been programmed.

C28xx_CPU1: GEL: File: E:\Project\PD800\F2837xD\F2837xD\v150\F2837xD_examples_Cpu1\aa_cpu_timers\cpu01\ccs\CPU1_FLASH\cpu_timers_cpu01.out: Load failed.

The captured CCS view and console  can be found in attachment #2 and #3, and we confirmed that all those addresses like 0x82000 and 0x82014 are blank.

Please forget the PLL settings in on-chip flash view where the PLLSYSCLK is configured to 150MHz as both 190MHz or 150MHz should work as long as it's not exceed 190MHz.

Could you please advise if we missed anything or what else should we check?

  • Ricky,

Please answer few questions to better identify the problem:
    1) Did that device fail with other laptops as well?
    2) Did you try checking for updates and installing them?
    3) Did you try with the default Plugin GUI's PLL settings? Did it work?
    4) How is the board powered? via laptop USB?
    5) Did you notice a toggle on XRSn?

Generating debug server logs might help for further debug. You can generate the logs via "CCS Help menu -> CCS Support -> Select Debug Server Log -> Click on Properties -> Select Enable Debug Server Logging + Choose a log file location -> Click Ok". Please generate and share them.

Can you also enable the "Enable Verbose Output" option provided at the bottom of the On-Chip Flash GUI in CCS (Tools menu -> On-Chip Flash)? Send us the console window output when it fails loading to Flash.

    Thanks and regards,
    Vamsi
  • Vamsi,

Thanks for your quick response. I try to answer most of your questions and will ask customer to provide debug server logs to share.

    1. No, it's not for a single device or board, but it's only related to 1 laptop. All other laptops with exactly identical CCS installation can download well.

    2. No, as I mentioned, all other laptops installed same version of software.

    3. Yes, it didn't work for that laptop, but either 150MHz or 190MHz works at other laptops.

    4. It's powered by switching power supply which is on-board like their final mass production product, so the current should be enough.

    5. I didn't check this and can ask customer to try to monitor.

It's already attached in my original post at the end, named as "load fail console".

Do you think I need to get OS information as well?

  • Ricky,

Thank you for the update. Please update on #5 when you have the info.

On #2: Can you try installing the updates? (I understand same versions work on other laptops, but please try and see if that helps).

    Sure, get the OS info.

    Thanks and regards,
    Vamsi
  • Ricky,

    Can you update on this?

    Thanks and regards,

  • Vamsi,

    Sorry for late response.

Customer doesn't like to do it by themselves so I on-site checked this yesterday and now this issue was addressed.

We firstly update the TI C2000 device support from original v4.2.3.0 to v4.2.6.0, but it's still failed (If you want to see the screenshot and .log file, I can share separately via email since it's too large size).

Then we found that the connections is pretty unstable since it always disconnected after connected, and since it indicated that the TI Emulators version is 7.0.188.0, then we updated it also to the latest, which seems to be 8.2.xxx.x something, and then we get the load succeeded.

We can now closed this post, and thank you for your support and following-up.

    Best Regards,

    Ricky Zhang
