TMDSDOCKH52C1: UART Handler issue in Concerto

Ravin,

It looks like the problem might be a missing jumper J9 on the Docking Station. You can find J9 between the JTAG header (J2) and the controlCARD connector (J1) near GPIO pin number 33. This jumper J9 connects the onboard USB-to-UART bridge RX-Slave. Additional information and schematics for the Docking Station and controlCARD can be found in C2000Ware.

Hi Ken,

I am using on board FTDI FT2232 USB interface for serial communication with my PC.

When data is replied from PC interface I can see LD5 & 6 glow which indicates that data is reached to FTDI chip, but I am not getting handler in code.

I did not found any more jumber or SW settings other than SW3 position 2. I hope I clarify my issue now more precisely.

For SW3 position 2 - on will enable the RS-232 transceiver which allows communication through the DIMM-100 socket. With the switch off communication occurs through the FTDI – FT2232 chip. Please confirm the setting for SW3.

Please reference the controlCARD schematics at:

On sheet 4 find the digital isolator U21. Using a scope please check if you have SCI activity on pins 2 and 7.

I am getting signals on pins 2 & 7 of U21. Also as I mentioned LD6 gets glow when I send data from my PC serial Interface.

is SW3 position 2 still in the "off"position? If I remember correctly the "off" position creates an open across the switch.(  You should be able to quickly test this with an oscilloscope or a DMM)

This switch was added to avoid having multiple drivers on the RX line if a user would choose to use GPIO-28 as an output.

Why were you putting SW3 in the "off" position?

Yes SW3 position 2 & 1 both are in OFF state.

I am refering TMS320F28M35xx Concerto controlCARD R1.0 Information Guide, section 4 SW3 which suggests putting SW3 in ON position will make RX pin as always high.

For your reference, I am Interfacing PC serial through USB FTDI chip on board.

Can you measure the resistance across the switch with it in the on and off position?

position 2 @ ON : 0 ohm
position 2 @ OFF : 13.81 Kohm

position 1@ ON : 0 ohm
position1@ OFF: 1.08 Mohm

After careful review of the schematic it looks like SW3 position 2 needs to be ON to connect the PC to the RX input of the SCI. Please see SW3 on sheet 3 (bottom center of sheet):

As you can see SW3 isolates “PE4_GPIO28 [the pin] from RX-S [the output of the isolation] when it is in the ‘off’ position. This looks like a documentation error. Please change SW3 position 2 to 'ON'.
