TMS320F28379S: TMS320F28379S

Part Number: TMS320F28379S
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DESIGNDRIVE, MOTORWARE, TMS320F28075

I am looking at this link.

training.ti.com/.../MotorControlwithTIC2000.pdf

It shows that Position Manager is supported but not the InstaSPIN Motor Technology. What are the similarities and differences between the two feature set if any, I like to know. Thanks.

  • Hi,
PositionManager technology offers limited support of interfacing to some of the position sensors (absolute or incremental) used in motor control applications. Whereas InstaSPIN as you see in the pdf is complete motor control solution.
You can view more details of InstaSPIN at,
    www.ti.com/.../instaspin.html
  • Do you have plans to release InstaSpin for TMS320F28379S? If so, can you share your roadmap with us? Otherwise, what microcontroller should we choose instead to make it easy for us to get our motor control working and get it tuned for our application. We are in the process of accessing which controller to choose for our next design. I am exploring the TMDXIDDK379D: C2000 DesignDRIVE Develoment Kit for Industrial Motor Control right now.

Any guidance in that process will be appreciated.Thanks.

  • We have no plans to support F28379D, or any F2837xS/D, platform with InstaSPIN. InstaSPIN requires specific libraries be loaded into ROM during production, so it is not possible to retrofit devices with InstaSPIN. We currently offer InstaSPIN support on Piccolo devices in the F2802x, F2805x and F2806x families. We will also support F28004x devices with Motor Control SDK, which is to be released early 2019.

What is the end application? Is this a sensored or sensorless drive? Will you need access to source code for safety verification purposes?

    Sean

  • Our Inverter controller board will provide voltage output to three phase induction motor that will drive fuel transfer pump. Controller will have ability to change motor speed upon target pressure (closed loop control) and applied voltage. The design uses a current sensor, 0-150 amps (0-3.3V out) and a comparator and control logic with appropriate DSP connections. Yes, we will need access to source code for safety verification purposes.
  • TMDXIDDK377D says that, C2000 DesignDRIVE Development Kit is for 'Industrial Motor Control'. I  am confused if I should select TMS320F28075 or TMS320F28379S. The other issue is, one of our partner company is currently using the InstaSpin motorware software and having many issues they are struggling with, and not able to resolve in a timely manner. I have worked with TI before and have had a wonderful technical support experience. I am wondering if TI still has the same standard of technical support or not. I really need help in deciding the processor for our application.

Also, if I decide to go with TMS320F28075, can I trade the current C2000 DesignDRIVE Development Kit (IDDK) - TMDXIDDK377D for a kit that will help me exploreTMS320F28075?

    Thanks for your support.
