TMS320F280049: How to understand the erase time of flash parameters ?

Part Number: TMS320F280049

As shown in the F28004x datasheet, why are there 2 values for the erase time?  My customer got the challenge in F28035 that the erase time is too long, as shown in Table 5-14, which up to 2s per sector. I hope in F28004x this can be improved, but I don't understand what 25 cycles and 20K cycles refer to. And which one is the right one to compare with 2s for F28035.  Highly appreciate with your comment.

  • Aki,

The 25 and 20K cycles refers to the number of times the device has been erased and programmed.  When the flash is new, it erases faster.  After you erase and re-flash the device multiple times, it starts to take longer to erase.

  • David,

Thank you. How about the erase time for the cycle times between 25 and 20K, so it will increase from 15ms to 120ms? And one more question for the max value, I saw the comment in F28035, "Maximum flash parameter mentioned are for the first 100 program and erase cycles", so it is also the case for F28004x?

I would expect yes, the typical erase time will increase from 15ms to 120ms between 25 and 20K cycles.

This is saying that the F2803x datasheet is showing the max time for <100 cycles.  The F28004x datasheet is giving you two datapoints: <25 cycles, and at 20K cycles.

  • Thanks ! Clear now.
  • David,

Customer is asking for the erase time if the erase cycle>100? Do we have this parameter?

  • For F28035

  • Aki,

Thank you for bringing this up.  I filed a ticket for Datasheet update to include an explanation for the Erase time at 25 and 20K cycles.  That will help users.

Please open a new thread for F28035 erase time question so that corresponding expert can be assigned for the post to help you.

    Thanks and regards,

  • Vamsi,

    Thank you!
