Hi champs,
The new F28388D controlCARD use 25MHz crystal for c28x and my customer follows this design and use 25MHz clock for both c28x and EtherCAT PHY.
If my customer wants to use USB boot loader, should he modify his design, use 20MHz crystal for c28x and 25MHz for PHY?
Regards,
-Luke
Luke,
USB bootloader needs 20MHz clock so yes, if they are planning to use USB BOOT loader as well as EtherCAT then they need to make appropriate changes.

Vivek,
With 20MHz clock, my customer can configures ECATDIV and creates 100MHz EtherCAT clock, then generates 25MHz EtherCAT PHY clock to GPIO154 for external PHY, is this correct?
Is there any side effect if he uses F28388D's PHY clock rather than external 25MHz crystal?
Regards,
Luke
Hi Luke,
Please note that if you are using EtherCAT then requirement is that ESC (EtherCAT Slave Contoller) and CPU should be using same clock source which is 25MHz. If you want to use USBBOOT and EtherCAT both then you need to use 20MHz for XTAL and 25MHz for AUXCLKIN, source CMCLK and EtherCAT clock from AUXPLL and use EtherCAT from CM instead of C28x.
Is there any side effect if he uses F28388D's PHY clock rather than external 25MHz crystal?
There is specific PPM requirement for PHY clock and if that is not met then there could be some issue. User need to test this option with integrated system to make sure it works as expected.
