TMDSEMU110-U: Presence of built-in isolation circuit in XDS110 debug probe

Hi All,

I am developing a custom board with the F28379S and plan to use the XDS110 debug probe. I was wondering if the XDS110 (TMDSEMU110) pod contains a built-in electrical isolation circuit for the JTAG signals, or should my custom board containing the target device implement an isolation circuit? The datasheet and the product information documents for XDS110 do not indicate the presence/absence of a built in isolation circuit in the XDS110.

Hi Aravind,

The answer is yes. ISO7240C is one of those ICs for digital isolation.

Hi Hossein,

You are referring to the F28069 launchpad schematic. Yes, there are 2 isolation chips ISO7240 and ISO7231, and isolation is provided between the power supply generated for the FTDI FT2232H IC and the 3.3V power supply generated to power up other onboard peripherals (including the microcontroller) present on the 069 launchpad board. Also, I believe the launchpad uses XDS100v2.

My question here is slightly different. I am planning on using the XDS110 pod (www.ti.com/.../TMDSEMU110-U) and would like to know if there is some form of isolation present within this pod to protect both the host computer and the target microcontroller for custom microcontroller board designs?

Aravind,

There is no isolation on the TMDSEMU110-U debug pod.

For a custom board, if real-time debug in an isolated environment is required, you can treat the isolation circuit referenced by Hossein as a reference for adding isolation. You could create an isolation adapter, or place the isolation on your application board.
