TMS320F28035: GUI support

Part Number: TMS320F28035
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TIDA-00322, , TDC1000-C2000EVM, TDC1000

Hi, I'm having issues connecting the GUI interface to the TMS320F28035. I'm using the TIDA-00322 reference design, and connecting using an FTDI cable, the drivers are up to date. is there code I have to program onto the chip prior to using the GUI software? I have used the same hardware setup however it does not connect to the GUI.

  • Hi there Zeshan,

Can you please confirm which specific HW you are using? do you have the TIDA-00322 HW, or are you using the TDC1000-C2000EVM?

I am attempting to get my hands on the HW locally so that I can assist you. I should have one of those boards today (not 100% which we have locally).

If you do have the TID, did you procure it through an FAE? Did you build it yourself? If built it yourself, yes, you would need to program the firmware onto the MCU. I just installed the GUI myself (TDC1000-C2000EVM GUI v1.2.0.83 (TIDA-00322) (Rev. B)) and it includes some firmware. Ensure that you have Code Composer Studio installed with C2000 support, and then program the .out included.

Which drivers are you referring to? please show a screen capture of your Windows Device Manager. Check out Sexction 4.2 Installing the Driver of http://www.ti.com/lit/SNIU023

If you can let me know what HW, and how you got it, I should be able to assist more once I have some HW myself.

    Thanks,
    Mark

  • Zeshan,

I just got the HW TDC1000-C2000EVM on my desk. I am not able to get to it before the end of the day today. It will be the first thing I do in the morning. If you can please let me know exactly what the HW you are using as well as how you procured it, I should have a clear picture of your situation when I am trying it out in the morning.

    I appreciate your patience.

  • Hi Mark,

I am using the 'tidrbi0' schematic, from the TIDA-00322 design. I have built the parts of the circuit that I will utilise on a breadboard to debug and test.

Ok, that would make sense, could you please point me in the direction of the firmware?

I'm referring to the FTDI drivers, as on 'tidu616' the test data refers to using a FTDI cable to connect to the board.

    Thanks
    Zeshan
  • Zeshan,

The Firmware project should be included in the install directory of the GUI: "C:\Program Files (x86)\Texas Instruments\TDC1000_C2000\Firmware"

As I mentioned earlier, the SNINU023 document describes the GUI gui setup as well, including the FTDI driver in section 4.2 "Installing the Driver".

May I ask why you have not purchased the TDC1000-C2000EVM? TI recommends this kit for initial product development and is set up for direct connection to a PC without any modifications or breadboarding as well as access to additional debug signals.

  • Hi Mark,

Thank you for the feedback, I will give that a go and purchase the TDC1000-C2000EVM.
