FDC1004EVM: How to solve "No USB FET was found"?

I have FDC1004EVM, and I am trying to do the same thing as the old thread, The FDC 1004EVM has MSP430F5528 controller, however, the Eenergia IDE has MSPF5529 selection. I got the same error messages below. The Board is connected as it has LED on and also show in the right-bottom corner .

The same thing occurs when I tried FDC2214EVM.

Can someone help me with the issue?

This sounds like it may be an issue with the uC interface and/or software.

I searched the web and found there were many old posts asking the same question, but no good solution provided.

Hi Johnson,

I installed the latest version of MSP430 FET driver, but I do not get what you showed here, I only have EVM without MSP description.

I reinstalled the driver and checked the port again, it shows the same.

Hi Guxing,

Do you have another EVM? I think you can try to change a Hardware, PC or USB Cable and test again.

Hi Johnson,

The hardware are ok, the EVM works fine in reading data point by point and in streaming as well as in writing to registers.

I also tried a few controllers, Sparkfun Redboard Quiic, ProMicro, Arduino Nano, Seeeduino Xiao, NI USB8451 using the same PC and cable without problem.

I also tried another way. I exported a sketch HEX file from Energia and tried to upload it as a firmware to the EVM using Sensor Solution GUI, also failed. it disconnects the cable connection once I click the Upload Firmware.

Hi Guoxing,

I found FDC1004EVM just have a F5528, don't have MSP-FET or eZ-FET.

If you would like to change some code for this MCU, you need some debug tools(MSP-FET, eZ-FET).

Hi Johnson,

I will buy a MSP-FET. Could you please let me know if it can also be used with Energia for programing MSP430F5528 and MSP430F5529?

The Energia has MSP430F5529 only, the FDC1004EVM and FDC2214EVM schematic show the controllers are MSP430F5528

My thinking is that 5528 and 5529 shares the same basis as they are in the same datasheet. 5529 can be selected for 5528 program on Energia. But I need your confirmation before I place an order.

In addition, does any micro controller needs an emulation development tool (e.g.MSP-FET) for programming? if yes, for the other boards I successfully uploaded sketch, they should have an imbedded-emulator on-board. is my understanding correct?

Yes.

MSP-FET can program F5528 and F5529.

Any MCU needs emulation development tool.

I am more comfortable using Energia than CCS, Can you please confirm if MSP-FET works with Energia?
