MSP430F5510: The MSP430F5510 can not burn program

Dear Expert

Normally, we could find the device in PC device management list after connecting device to USB port, the default VID of device is 0x2047 and PID is 0x200(refer attached “Default PID&VID.JPG”), the programming tool is almost same as the TI official tool(refer attached photo) and need to check this value before loading our application FW. If the programming tool can recognize this device, the device could download the FW.

 

For those defective devices, we measured the supply voltage and didn’t find any problem, but it couldn’t be found in PC device list when connect to USB port, so we can’t do more analysis from the software side, but we guess those devices may not be programmed/missing the Bootloader file before shipment to us. We suggest we ship some devices to you for further analysis, please comment.

    If blank factory device does not automatically enumerate as HID BSL by OS after USB connection to PC, reason for this can be in XT2 and not in missing HID BSL.

    Missing HID BSL can be checked by reading BSL area with any SBW / JTAG master connected to MSP430F5510 target device.

    We can ensure the crystal(XT2) can work, the frequency is around 24Mhz same as the good device, so it should be not the crystal issue.  

    We don't have the JTAG master on hand, is it ok we ship some defective devices to your factory for furthur analysis?

    And this issue is occur in all device? or only one device?

    Hello Johnson,

    Sorry for my late reply, as I am out of office in CNY holiday.

    This issue only occured in some devices, the fail rate is about 2%, there are more than 100pcs failed devices on our production line. We have analyzed those failed devices and found the root cause is related to MSP430F5510.

    When we just replaced the failed unit with a new MSP430F5510, it can be found on devive manager after USB connection to PC, and then can be programmed successfully,no need to change any other components.so we expect your team to help do furthur analysis.Thanks!
