MSP430F247: Compatibility with IEC 60730 Software Package

Part Number: MSP430F247

Hi there,

We have an existing product and ecosystem that has been built using the MSP430F247 microcontroller. We are now aiming to get this product certified against IEC 60730 Class B.

I would like to know if this microcontroller is compatible with the TI IEC 60730 Software Package? If so, how many checks are supported?

Alternatively, is there another MSP430 microcontroller that could be used in place of the MSP430F247?

We appreciate all and any advice offered.

Kind Regards,

Jason.

  • Hello Jason,

The TI IEC 607030 SW package only supports the following devices as seen on its webpage:

The MSP430G2xxx devices are similar to MSP430F247 that you can utilize to port to this device.

  • Hi Jace,

Thank you for your quick response.

Do you know if the MSP430F247 is not supported by the TI IEC 607030 SW package due to hardware limitations of the micro? If so, would you know the main differences?

If it is possible, we'd like to avoid porting to a new micro and try implement the IEC60730 tests on the MSP430F247. Obviously if that is physically not possible due to hardware limitations then we have no choice.

    Thanks,

    Jason.

  • Hello Jason,

I do not see any reason why it could not be ported and tested. If a device is not listed it was not tested and all features of the library may not work. The choice of what devices were tested and ported is a combination of hardware limitations that prevent it from completely passing (such as the MSP430I204x thread here), and just limitations on what devices we can support upon release. We try to pick the most populous devices and ones that could easily port to other families were we can.

  • Hi Jace,

Thank you for all your help. It is much appreciated.

We possibly (TBC) require all of the IEC 60730-1 tests to be implemented for our device to pass the required certification. We have had a look and none of the supported MSP430 ranges appear to suit our exact needs. Specifically, in regards to memory, ADC type, number of SPI and packaging.

Looks like we may have to move to a new microcontroller for this application.

    Thanks,

    Jason.

  • Hello Jason,

In that case, please take a look at our new MSPM0 , ARM Cortex M0+ platform MCUs. We will be having an IEC 60730 library support on these MCUs here as well.
