MSP-GANG: problem with Get_MCU_Name function giving Error 1

I'm using Labview to interact with an MSP-Gang programmer using Library function calls (in this case, the MSP-Gang.DLL). I'm having an issue with the Get_MCU_Name.  I can get it to return a name based on the index and group index numbers I input, but it gives an error as well which is "error01 - BOOT Firmware only is in the MSP-Gang! The API Firmware should be downloaded."

Can anyone explain what this means and how I might approach a solution?
