FET430UIF: single step does not work

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: MSP430F149

Dear Sirs,

Right now i am looking for 4h for a solution of the single step problem and did not find a solution.

here is my configuration:

CCSV4 (Version: 4.2.4.00033)

MSP430UIF (com3 on my pc, vcp-version is 6.5.9017.0 issued by TI on 2009-10-20)

Target Board: special board (own developement)

Target Processor: MSP430F149

Development is done with Windows 7 Professional 64 Bit

Problem:

No single stepping possible! The console says:

MSP430: Program loaded. Code Size - Text: 950 bytes  Data: 1042 bytes
and when trying to do a single step:
MSP430: Can't Single Step Target Program: Could not single step device

From the Disassembly-Window I can see, that the correct program is loaded. I read the thread
"MSP430: Can't Single Step Target Program: Could not single step device" (http://e2e.ti.com/support/microcontrollers/msp43016-bit_ultra-low_power_mcus/f/166/t/18966.aspx)
and followed all the instructions, but the FET-Pro430 tool tells me:

I can't get the FET-Pro430 tool to show me something else than "available software version: n/a", When I start the Firmware Downloader, it programs the above named firmeware to the FET. When I afterwards start the debugging with ccsv4, the project is downloaded to the target, and no "firmware update necessary" is issued by the ccs.

An other try was to update the firmware manually with mspgcc-proxy (command: "msp430-gdbproxy msp430 --update-usb-fet TIUSB"). The update was executed successfully, but afterward the ccsv4 was not able to communicate with the FET. It also did not issue any request for a necessary firmware update.

I assume, that the single step problem is caused by an incorrect FET-firmware, but I can find a way to update it. Is there anywhere in the ccsv4 a pissibility to bypass the automatic version test and force an update?

BR

Uwe

  • Here is the screenshot from FET-Pro430, which got lost on my first post:

  • Hi,

now I bought a new MSP-FET430UI and after the automatic detected und processed Firmware update single stepping works without problems.

Concerning the old FET: Since it programms the flash of the MSP correctly, I assume the jtag interface is working properly. So it seems to me, that the problem is only a firmware question. To try to get it working, I want to update the FET-firmware:

How can I force a firmware update on the FET430UI from ccsv4?

    BR
