MSP430F5418A: MSP430F5418A

Part Number: MSP430F5418A
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: MSP-EXP430F5529LP

Hi,

I need boot procedure or docs related to this MSP430F5418A EVM board.

Need details on how to boot the EVM board and any configurations to be made?

Also need details on any external peripherals are required for the booting, like JTAG?

  • Hi,

What do you mean by boot procedure? You want to know about the bootloader procedure or SBW interface or JTAG interface for programming the MCU?

    Best regards,

    Cash Hao

  • I mean the boot process, how to boot up the EVM board, what all are required for the booting of the EVM board!!

  • Hi,

Could you explain more about boot up the EVM board? I could not help if I do not understand what you are trying to do here. Thanks for understanding.

And could you also share the link of your EVM board? I do not find we have a MSP430F5418A EVM on TI website.

    Best regards,

    Cash Hao

  • Hi Hao,

Sorry for the confusion, i am using the EVM MSP-EXP430F5529LP, when i checked there are no particular docs on booting this device. So, need some docs on this

  • We are unclear what you want because there is no "booting" - you just turn it on. The only real requirement has to do with the rate of VDD turn on and how long reset is held, but neither of these are particularly critical, and the Launchpad handles it for you.

  • Hi,

There is a quick start guide in this link. https://www.ti.com/lit/ug/slau536/slau536.pdf

And if you only need to power up the board, you can directly connect the USB panel to the EVM board. This will power up your board.

  • Hi Hao, as you suggested I connected the USB and it got powered up, but when i tried to load a default led blink code to the board in the Code composer studio, im getting error msg as
MSP430: Error connecting to the target: Unknown device.

When i checked the document slau533d.pdf, i observed that some pins are already connected

but the board i have, has open pins that are not connected, is it like i have to connect them through any jumper wires?

I'm using a linux PC with CCS installed in it.

  • Hi,

Yes, you need to connect them through jumpers.

    Best regards,

    Cash Hao

  • Hi Hao,

I have connected through the jumpers, but still facing the issue connecting to the lauch pad.

While i'm trying to flash a normal LED blink from CCS, im getting a error msg as
MSP430: Error connecting to the target: The Debug Interface to the device has been secured.

Please suggest the next steps soon, as it is getting delayed for our project.

    Thanks and Regards

  • Hi,

The easiest way is to replace the MCU with a new one.

    Best regards,

    Cash Hao

  • Hi,

Is there any other way to work around on this, other than replacing the MCU, because as of i know no one programmed or flashed anything. If there is any other alternative please suggest.

    Thanks and regards

    Sai Akhil C

  • Hi,

There is no other better way from my view.

The JTAG is locked and the only way to access is through BSL with the correct password. Obviously, you do not know what is the correct BSL password based on your description. So, there is no other method to access this MCU.

    Best regards,

    Cash Hao
