Tool/software:
I am trying to flash the MSP430 MCU using the Segger Flasher. I have noticed that in the target device section, I can select MSP432 but not the MSP430, see the image below:

If I want to add MSP430 to the J-Flash target device list and flash the MSP430 MCU's, is that something I must do on my own or that is something I should request from the Manufacturer (in this case Texas Instruments) or I should request this from the Segger? I would appreciate the clarifications as I am a little unsure of this. Thanks in advance
Hi Lukas,
Which Segger flasher are you using? Looking at Segger's compatible devices, not all are compatible with MSP430. MSP432 uses an ARM core, while MSP430 uses a proprietary core, so I would question whether your tool supports both devices.
Hey. I am using Segger Flasher Compact :
www.segger.com/.../
According to the list you have sent should support the MSP430
Hi Lukas,
Yep, looks like it is supported. My expectation is that the segger flasher software installer should prompt you to choose devices to install support for (this is how most other tools I have used work). If you re-run the installer and can't get MSP430 devices to show, I would recommend that you look at Segger's documentation for the tool, or make a post on the segger forum, as the flasher compact is a Segger product.
It turned out that the MSP430 is only supported in U-Flash software and not in the J-FLash.
Thanks for posting your resolution here in the thread. I'm going to mark this as closed, feel free to create a new thread if you have a new problem relating to our devices.
