MSP430F5342: Help installing MSP430-SDK — MSP430-SDK for MSP430 Microcontrollers on computer without internet connection

Part Number: MSP430F5342
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: MSP430-SDK, , MSP430WARE

Tool/software:

Hello, I need some help installing the MSP430-SDK in Code Composer Studio. The microcontroller I want to design for is the MSP430F5342. My computer does not have a internet connection. I have downloaded the MSP430-SDK from another computer that has an internet connection and I have installed the SDK on the non-internet connected computer. The problem I have is that I don't know how to manually add this SDK within the Code Compose IDE.

I did go to Code Composer General Products setting and added the path to where the SDK is installed.

I don't see this SDK in the l Resource Explorer:

Can anyone help me install this SDK please.

Thank  you

Joe

  • Hi Joe,
Can you change the path of the MSP430 SDK to the path that is set by default (C:/ti/msp430ware_3_80_14_01)?

  • Hello, I re-installed the MSP430Ware_3_80_14_01_setup software. It installed two directories in the ti folder:

I launched CCS and added that directory to the Product Discovery Path

I still not not see the device "MSP430F5342" in the drop down list from the Getting Started tab.

I then added the other msp directory:

I do notice that in the Discovered Products it does have a path the the MP430Ware directory.

Yet, I don't see MSP430F5342 listed in the drop down list in the Getting Started tab.

    Any ideas?

    Thank you very much,

    Joe

  • Hi Joe,
The MSP430 may not have examples for the specific device you have. However, you should be able to migrate one existing project from a device similar to yours. As a last resource, I will recommend downloading an example from the Resource Explorer on the computer with the Internet and moving it to your offline computer.

  • Hello and thank you for responding to my post. I must admit I am new to CCS so I may not have a full understanding on how to create a new  project. I thought you start my selecting the device number from the drop down list in the Getting Started tab. Is that correct? I want to create an empty project not an example.

    Joe

  • Hi Joe,
We recommend using an already-created example since it sets up all the things you need to start interacting with the device. If you need to empty a project, I recommend erasing any code you find in an example until you get what you need. Here's a link for some projects you can download from the online Resource Explorer. https://dev.ti.com/tirex/explore/node?node=A__AM87ZxUy0JHsbCU85S-O-g__msp430ware__IOGqZri__LATEST

  • Thank you very much for the link I will download the example.

Here is a screen shot of the Resource Explorer in CCS:

How come I don't see the MSP430 SDK show up?

    Joe

  • Hi Joe,
I noticed that the way Resource Explorer installs the MSP430 SDK is different than downloading it and installing it through the executable in TI.com. I recommend installing it inside your regular CCS with the internet, zip it, and extract it inside the Offline CCS in the directories in the image below.

  • My internet connected computer is only for email and web browsing it does not have CCS.

  • Hi Joe,
In that case, I would recommend to download it from this message. Let me know if that fixes it.

  • I was able to import the download but I can't find any projects in the Resource Explorer. I'm going to give up.

Thank you for all your help.

  • Hi Joe,
I'm sorry to hear that. I recommend sticking with importing the projects from our SDK directly. There isn't much of a difference from exporting them from Resource Explorer. If you need further help with this problem, let me know. If you have a different question on this topic, I recommend creating another E2E thread.
