MSP430 Launchpad demo related questions Re: java GUI

I've been able to observe the two demo programs (blinking LEDs and Temperature check) VISUALLY.  I've been able to run the Launchpad_temp-GUI.exe and have a window display "Current Temperature" in large text ... in fact, so larger that the actual temperature reading is not actually displayed in the created MS-DOS window.  The GUI software appears to be written in Java (at least he source I viewed).  I would like to modify this java code to display in a smaller font or at least reduce "current Temperature" displayed text to :"Curr Temp", thus hopefully moving the temp values over to the left and be displayed within the defined window area.

Can I use CCS5.1 with a java plugin to make the modification?  If so, any pointers, e.g. reasonably detailed tutorials, would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance,

Dirigo

  • Hi Dirigo,

The Launchpad Temp GUI demo is written in Processing, which is a language framework on top of Java.

I don't have much experience with it, but I imagine it should be fairly painless to learn.

  • Thanks Tony!  I've sort of been spinning my wheels trying to figure out what a .pde file extension is and what software creates it!  I'm somewhat familiar with java, but am no expert as it's been a few years for me doing any programming.  I'm a very old guy who's trying to keep the brain cells active.  LOL!

Anyway I went to the link you listed and a lot of things began to fall in place for me.  I'm going to give it a try.  Again, thanks a lot.  I appreciate it.
