I just got a new Laptop recently with Windows Vista Home premium edition on it. It appears that I can't load the drivers for the EZ430 for the kickstart program. I assume I may have the same problem with the FET430UIF I just bought recently too. Though I haven't had time to try out the FET430 programmer yet.
I did do a search and found a post that suggested vista 32bit should work, but I am not sure if premium is not going to work. So does this mean I am forced to jump back to my XP machine to program? Are there special step(s) for vista to install the driver that I am missing?
Thanks,
ty, the eZ430 and UIF are currently limited to 32-bit Windows XP and Vista. All the variants (home, premium, etc) of 32-bit vista should work.
[edit] 64-bit drivers are now available here: http://wiki.msp430.com/index.php/MSP430_JTAG_Interface_USB_Driver
premium is available in both 32 and 64bit editions.. The 32 bit version works fine.. forget about using it on a 64 bit is.. if you vista premium is 64 bit you will have to downgrade it..
Yeah,
I tried the FET430UIF and had the same luck and then decided to check the system information. It does say that the operating system is 64 bit.. So I take it that I am out of luck unless I want to downgrade which I rather not, but rather not to jump between my old machine either.. Oh well.. So I did see in the thread about the beta version of code essentials that there was a mention that TI is working on a 64 bit version of the driver. So does anyone know what the rough ETA or that is if true?
Thanks,
there is another option.. you can use virtual pc and make a virtual pc within your pc.. this can be either xp or a 32bit vsta.. virtual pc is free from microsoft.. I have found most USB device drvers work fine in the virtual enviroment..
I had similar problems trying to install my FET430UIF on my new machine which is running 64-bit Vista Home Premium. I searched all over and finally found a driver here:
http://wiki.msp430.com/index.php/MSP430_JTAG_Interface_USB_Driver
I was able to install it without any trouble, and I did a quick test to see if it worked. From IAR Kickstart I was able to download code to my board and run it in debug mode. I stepped through the code a little bit just to get an idea if it was working. I haven't had a chance to test it thoroughly yet, but the initial results look promising. If I find anything wonky I'll post an update.
I don't think it matters as far as the driver is concerned, but I'm debugging using Spy Bi-Wire (and not full JTAG). For what it's worth...
