MSP-GANG Programmer Vcc problem

I have trouble using the MSP-GANG Programmer + MSP-GANG Splitter.

When toggling the Vcc on/off in the MSP-GANG Programmer software, I measure the voltage go on and off on pin#12 on the JTAG/BSL sockets, but according to http://www.ti.com/lit/ug/slau358c/slau358c.pdf fig 5-5, this pin is supposed to be used for BSL-TX.

Have I missed something? Is anyone else experiencing this?

I do not measure any voltage changes on pin 2 as expected.

(I am using the MSP-GANG Programmer, NOT the MSP-GANG430)

    I can confirm that behaviour. Pin#12 is enabled/disabled if you enable/disable Vcc for all target device sockets, even for the disabled ones. But it's still BSL-TX function on that pin. For data transmission lines (TxD, RxD) logic zero is defined as a positive voltage. Pin#2 VCC-SW is used for supply voltage. It's only enabled if you select the associated target device in the results group to be programmed.

  • I would like to add that the voltage applied to any pin should not exceed -0.3 V to VCC + 0.3V. To blow the JTAG fuse the JTAG test pin is the only one allowed to exceed that absolute maximum rating. IMO it's a bug, but I don't know if it's a current known issue. I would recommend you to connect the device to be programmed only. Leave unused JTAG sockets empty.

    great!

    I was wondering if it was just coincidencial that BSL-TX followed Vcc :). It turns out that my circuit was overloading Vcc so that explains why I didn't measure anything useful on my selected port. The other ones have probably been disabled when I investigated them.

    Everything is fine now, thanks for your input on this :).
