Hi,

Where can I find the MSP430 USB Device Firmware Update tool “BSL_USB_GUI.exe"

which is mentioned in the "MSP430 Field Firmware Update Demo" document slac299.

I have few Corrupted(JTAG blown) MSP430F5529 and I want to use this to recover these devices.

Thankyou.

  • I am also interested in USB DFU for MSP430F5529, TI mentions "the MSP430 USB DFU Windows Starter Project, a Visual Studio project that implements all the basic firmware update functionality. The project can be quickly customized, or integrated into a larger application". Is this available yet?

EDIT: I just saw another post where TI employees say that they're going to release the 'starter project' soon. Thank you TI.

  • Is the USB DFU available yet?

  • Hi All,

I am posting this in case it is helpful :

Texas Tech Support emailed yesterday ( 2010 Jun 09 ) about the BSL_USB_GUI.exe program :

"Yes, unfortunately this useful tool is not released yet.  Although there are no exact dates, it could be another month or two before you will find it on the web.  However it is certainly coming."

The MSP430 with onchip USB BSL is a great idea - I look forward to the app being available in due course ( unless I decide to write my own ;)....

I have found out some information that may be helpful to other people using the MSP430F5529 chip and evaluation board :

    1. The MSP430F5529 onchip USB BSL is a HID with VID = 0x2047 and PID = 0x0200. (TLA's rule OK;)

    2. If you get the message "USB device not recognised" when the evaluation board is plugged in while holding down the pushbutton, S3, it may be because jumper J4 is not in place - it is required in order to power the chip from the USB cable.

    3. The program "MSP430 USB CDC+HID API Stacks\HID_API\HID Demo App\UsbDemo.exe" from slac285a.zip can be set up with VID=2047 and PID=0200, press "SET VID PID" button, then "Init USB" button.

    Best Regards

  • But with this software, I'm not able to poke some flash bytes or sectors because I don't know the protocol. Is this protocol documented somewhere? (I'm familar with HID reports and HID descriptors.)
