Looking for MCU Recommendation for simple Motor Control

Hi,

I am looking to design a simple motor control for a device similar to touch-less trash can lid/door opener, and hoping to get a recommendation for the right micro-controller.

The device will have two sensors and will control the motor to open/close  the lid/door. I don't expect to have any embedded software involved in it, as the device is not complicated - one sensor makes the motor rotate in one direction and the other sensor for the other direction. The motor must stop when the lid/door opened or closed fully. The lid/door could be about 2 lbs in weight. The device is expected to operate just with  battery or with DC converted from the home's main AC supply.

Can anyone recommend the right micro-controller for this kind of application or point me to any good sites to get related info/data,

Thanks

  • Hello Jay,

Depending on the overall system, an MSP430 can be a perfect fit this application. It really depends on the type of motor you want to use and how it will be controlled. Which MSP430 would also be determined by this and by what else you want the MSP430 to do and/or what kind of sensors you have attached to it. i don't know enough about motors to give you a full recommendation. Hopefully the community here can step in for that. I do see a few motor capitations on http://43oh.com/ that could give you some ideas.
  • Thanks Jace for the info. I am still hoping to get some comments from anyone who is familiar with motors - thanks in advance.
