MSP432P401R: MSP432P401R powered by external 5V with UART functionality.

If I power the board (MSP432P401R) with an external 5V supply through jumper J7, can I still use the UART? Do any of the jumpers on J101 need to be removed?

J7 is intended as a 5V output. If you power at that point you will need to disconnect the 5V and 3.3 V jumpers from J101 and provide your own 3.3 V regulator to connect the 3.3 V rail. The schematic is in the launchpad users guide SLAU597F.

Got it. Next question. Say the device is powered externally through J6 with 3.3 V with the 3.3 V jumper from J101 disconnected. Can I leave the 5 V jumper from J101 to use J7 as a source? Assuming the device is still connected via USB

It's an unusual config, but as long as you ensure that you have a common ground (leaving the GND jumper of J101 in place) then you should be OK.
