MSP432P401R: MSP432P401R launchpad using external 5 volt supply connection (not USB port)

Part Number: MSP432P401R

I would like to know how to connect an external 5V power supply (not via the USB port) to power up my MSP432 P401R  (Red) launchpad.

What jack to use and any jumpers to insert/remove?

Thanks

  • Hello,

Please keep in mind that the MSP432P4 voltage range goes from 1.62 to 3.7V. Having said that, you will need to use Launchpad regulator, therefore:

    1. Use the 5V Header (J7) to connect the 5V external power supply.
    2. Remove all the jumpers from J101 except GND, 3V3 and 5V.

I'm assuming that you will be using and external debugger but I just want to make sure that is the case.

    Hopefully this helps.

  • This answers my question. I will be debugging using the onboard debugger and after i have my program working to my satisfaction i will be deploying the launchpad in another location as a standalone option using a 5V lab power supply to run unattended for a number of days. That's why i need the external supply.
If i need any debugger use, i will set up as i do currently through the USB port.
  • Can i leave the RST jumper on, in order to still use the MSP432 reset switch S3 to reset the MSP432 processor if needed ?

    Thanks

  • Yes that should be OK.
