MSP430 open core synthesis

Is there any patent that protects MSP430 instruction set? If yes, can the patent number be shared?

Thanks!

Robin

  • While an instruction set itself cannot be patented, it might be possible that the implementation of some feature always requires a patented mechanism.

However, the MSP430 instruction set is extremely simple, and none of its individual features are a new idea. (The most special thing about it is what features were chosen to be included.)

Anyway, the first MSP430 came out in 1993, so if there are any patents, they are expired.
