MSP430FR5969: FRAM Is corrupting after some time

Part Number: MSP430FR5969

Hi

I am using MSP430FR5969 with Dual Image, One image for Application code and second for extra image.

At startup bootloader checks image CRC and starts application.

But I received some devices from field Dead and when i read code from Dead device using FET pro.

Then i compared with memory of healthy device and i saw some bytes changes in FRAM section where code is saved.

So under what conditions this can happen, because this is memory where actual code is saved.

Please help.

Thanks in advance

Vivek Pathak

  • Hello Vivek,
we're sorry for the inconvenience you're facing. The observed FRAM corruption could have many reasons, HW and SW related.
To identify the root cause in your case, we need to identify the failure mechanism, which might not be easy.

So as I understood, you're updating the firmware of your application in the field. Thus you also must have code sections in your application, which are able to overwrite code memory.
Thus one of the first questions would be, how are these code sequences protected against unintentional execution?
With the failing units, can you deduce from the memory content, whether they have seen a firmware update, and whether the erroneous memory overwrites happened on one of these firmware updates?

BTW, as this will probably become a complex case, needing to share technical details of your application, I would like to inform you about the possibility of sharing data privately through E2E, by requesting friendship with me, and then using a private communication channel with me.

    Best regards
    Peter
