MSP430FR6047: example code for UART communication

I want to test the UART communication of MSP430FR6047 for our own designed target device. Now you have the possibility to show a little of your KungFu.

For testing I would like to have a little program that sends most ASCII symbols (so hex30 - hex5A) to UCA0TX in a loop. The baud rate should be 115200 baud, no parity, 1 stop bit and 8 data bits. I won't send informations to the MSP430FR6047 so I won't need the RX port.
I should be able to read the sent data with a terminal program like putty or termite.

Hi Kathrin,

There are several UART examples in the TI Resource Explorer. Here is a very simple one. Modify the code by disabling the UCRXIE and in the while loop load the TXBUF with one of your values you want to send each time you loop through. Keep track of how many bytes you send and when you have sent all you need, you can exit the loop or do something else.

I aditionally had to deactivate the LPM but now it works.

Hi Kathrin,

Yes, the system clocks are shut down in LPM3 and it takes too long for them to start up when a byte is received, so you get errors. You can use LPM0. In LPM0 the CPU stops, but clocks remain operating.
