DRV8332-HT: Is the FAULT signal function still support or disable on DRV8332-HT

Part Number: DRV8332-HT
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DRV8332

Is the FAULT signal function still support or disable on DRV8332-HT? Is FAULT signal still detect for over current shut down or under voltage protection occurred? How long the FAULT signal stay LOW when error occurred?

  • Hello David,

Table 1 in the datasheet (page 12) describes the FAULT and OTW reporting for overtemperature and overcurrent. FAULT is also asserted when an undervoltage event occurs.

Overcurrent can operate in different modes: latch or cycle-by-cycle.

    Thanks,

    Matt

  • Hi David,

Good day and thank you for contacting Texas Instruments customer support center.

I understand your concern about the confusion on the OTSD and OTW of DRV8332-HT device. Kindly be informed that this information on the datasheet on page 12(Table 1, Error Reporting, Device Protection System, etc) is not for DRV8332-HT. It is for the device non -HT version.

DRV8332-HT die is different from the commercial version. Thus DRV8332-HT does not have OT warning or shutdown. As DRV8332-HT electrical table it does not highlight any OTW ( Over temp warning or shutdown) as is the case with the commercial non -HT version. We are sorry for this confusion.

Do the FAULT support in DRV8332-HT die?

  • Interesting... let me double confirm this with the design team.

    Thanks,

    Matt

  • Hello David,

Sorry for the confusion. Thermal shutdown is disabled on the DRV8332-HT. Thermal warning and shutdown are reported for DRV8332 (commercial version) on the nOTW pin but are not reported on the DRV8332-HT

Overcurrent is still monitored and reported on the nFAULT pin. Undervoltage (on GVDD and VDD) is also still monitored and reported on the nFAULT pin.

    Thanks,

    Matt
