DRV8426E: How to monitor the DC motor current

Part Number: DRV8426E
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DRV8876, DRV8426, , DRV8874, DRV8876-Q1, DRV8428E

Hi

Earlier I have used DRV8876 driver IC for DC motor application. It is not available in market now, Do you have an exact alternate for DRV8876 driver IC? Since it is having IPROPI pin which can be used for monitor the current by MCU.

Now I'm using DRV8426 to drive a DC motor. Is that advisable to drive a dc motor?

Kindly let me know how to monitor the motor current in this driver IC? since it is having integrated current sense resistor.

Can i use low side external current sense resistor at AOUT2 pin? (Shown in image)

Looking forward your response!

Thanks

Murali

  • Murali,

Yes. You can put an external current sense resistor at DRV8426E AOUT2 pin.

Also, would you check if DRV8874 or DRV8876-Q1 is available or not?

BTW, DRV8428E has 16 pin package. If the output current is small, you can check DRV8428E.

    Regards,

    Wang Li

  • Hi Wang Li,

would you check if DRV8874 or DRV8876-Q1 is available or not?

I have checked in distributers site, No stock only. Could you help me to get 500 qty with the less lead time? Is there any way to get in less than 6 weeks?

DRV8428E has 16 pin package. If the output current is small, you can check DRV8428E.

    It has no fault pin.

You can put an external current sense resistor at DRV8426E AOUT2 pin

Do i need to add a current sense in between Aout2 pin or PGND pin ? with a mA change, I  want to monitor by MCU. Do you got any recommended current sensing op-amp or anything else?

    Thanks and regards,

    Murali

  • Murali,

Sorry, I have no power to speed up the lead time. Please contact local sales to see if they can help.

A current sense resistor is needs in the blue circle. Please search inline current sensing to get more detail, for example: https://www.ti.com/lit/an/sboa172/sboa172.pdf
