DRV2665: Piezoelectric drive recommendations

Part Number: DRV2665
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DRV8662, DRV2700,

hi TI,

Project Description: the customer needs a piezoelectric drive chip to drive a piezoelectric motor with a load of 2uF, and needs to output a  sine wave with a swing of 1kHz 30-90v.

The customer looked at the drv2665, drv2700 and drv8662, but when the load is 2uF, the output swing will be attenuated and can not reach 90V. Is there a good scheme recommended.

Or Can I build a high-voltage operational amplifier and boost for the circuit ,Is there a good proposal recommended?

  • Hi,

The DRV family of boosted piezo devices will unfortunately not be able to drive 2uF at 1kHz 90 V.

I think your idea of the discrete solution with a high voltage Op-Amp and external boost converter is the best option.

You should take this question to the power management forum and inquire about a boost converter that can supply the necessary current.

If my math is correct 2uF at 1kHz reactance is about 80 Ohms. so you need peak current of ~1A from 90 V.

    Regards,
    Arthur
