DRV8899-Q1: operation without SPI

Part Number: DRV8899-Q1
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DRV8889-Q1,

Hi team,

my customer wants to evaluate the DRV8899 / 8889 for a new project.

Currently they use a solution without SPI interface, therefore SPI is not yet included in the SW. They want to keep this discrete communication as fallback solution for the development phase.

Are there any parameters that can only be changed via SPI?

thanks in advance!
regards,
Jens

  • Jens,

For the DRV8889-Q1, without SPI, there will be no way to determine a STALL condition.  So, this is one feature that would not be possible without SPI.  The DRV8899-Q1 does not have STALL, so no issue there.  However, FULL step mode is the default, so customer would only be able to operate in full step mode.

All of the DEFAULTS are given in the register map.  I suggest they study the defaults and determine if they can work with the defaults.

    Regards,

    Ryan
