DRV8231A: VREF Current

Hi Team,

I have a question about DRV8231A.

In the Vref input, is what is the current into this input (what load does it present)?

The data sheet mentions that the voltage at the IPROPI pin is clamped in the event that this voltage exceeds Vref. When this happens, is there any effect or change to the Vref pin?

Hey Marvin,

The VREF pin is an analog input, so it should be very small current consumption, <1mA.

There is no change to the VREF pin during vIPROPI limiting - it doesn't go Hi-Z or get pulled low/high during it, it stays an analog input. The IPROPI voltage is limited so that it doesn't exceed VREF

You mentiioned that Vref is an analog input and the current should be less than 1 mA. Is this stated in the Data sheet? Sorry if I missed it. I would like to know the typical and worst case current please.

Hey Marvin,

It is stated in the datasheet that it is an analog input, but I am just guessing that it is less than 1mA. I put in a ticket to the Design team yesterday asking the current consumption, please give them up to a week to respond. I'll post their response here as soon as I have it.

Hey Marvin, the design team replied with:

VREF is high-impedance pin(MOSFET Gate) internally. So it has very low leakage (few nA). Across -40C to 150C, six-sigma also doesn't cross 100nA.

This applies during regular operation and also when IPROPI is clamped.

There will be no change in externally applied VREF voltage due to the clamping action
